By M.S. Kaye

A Sumerian water and sky god myth collides with a modern high school.
Ayanna is a math nerd, logical and rational, even cold, but Calder makes her feel things she never had before. Somehow, she’s able to accept it when she discovers he’s a reincarnated Sumerian water god. Will she be able to accept the full truth, that the story of Enki and Inanna has been reborn in a modern Ohio high school?

Excerpt:
Calder’s voice was quiet but threatening. “Can you not see she’s uncomfortable?”
Mark opened his mouth, as if about to argue.
Calder added in a growl, “Back the fuck off.”
The silence was cold.
Then a clang bellowed from the kitchen. Several of the girls gasped and jumped.
Calder shoved him the last couple inches into the wall, then walked out.
Everyone stared after him. They let him go, didn’t try to egg on a fight. I had the impression they knew better, like they were scared to anger Calder any more than he already was.
The atmosphere lightened slowly. Several voices recommenced.
“I don’t know. It must’ve boiled over,” one of the cafeteria workers said.
“Someone’s PMSing,” Mark snickered. He looked shaken, embarrassed.
“Wow,” one of the girls said.
“Yeah, Cal’s always been sweet like that. You should’ve seen when we were in the first grade and someone was picking on me. It was so sweet…” She went on and on. I had to ignore her.
The line dragged, and when I could finally see into the kitchen, I saw why. The huge pot looked like it’d spewed scalding water, and several of the women who’d been serving were attempting to dry surfaces all over the kitchen. How in the world had it boiled over like that? It looked more like it’d exploded. The water was everywhere, not just the stove and the floor, but the ceiling, the prep table, and even all the way to the serving line. What in the world is it with this town and water? The school sprinklers went off for no reason on my first day, the snow and rain behaved oddly, and now this.

FOREWARD

Most everyone who searches for tales of the middle ages and seeks out stories of Knights and battles, castles and magical swords only hears the stories of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table but there is an entire world full of rich stories and other countries who hold their legendary heroes in just such high regard. This is one such story.
And, if you could read English, French and Danish, you would be able to see that this story is merely one slice from the rich tapestry of tales that have been woven together throughout history.
The Viking Princess is the story of the legendary romance between King Arthur’s half-sister, Morgaine Le Fay, and her epic lover, the heroic Viking Holger Danske, the Prince of Denmark and heir to King Geoffrey’s throne.
Morgaine Le Fey is worthy of her own stand-alone stories for she was the most powerful sorceress in all of history, having tutored under the guidance of Merlin the Magician, it is said she quickly surpassed his abilities. But it is her tragic love story with the Danish Prince that forms this first story in the Viking Series: The Viking Princess.
Holger was the Norse leader and legendary warrior who is immortalized in stone in the dungeons of Hamlet’s Castle on the shore that sits between the sound of Denmark and Sweden.
But there is more to this tale than a simple love story.
King Arthur received his magical sword, Excalibur, from the Norse Goddess, also known as The Lady of the Lake but Excalibur was not the only magical sword she ever relinquished to mortal hands. She gave just such a magical sword to the Danish Prince, Holger, and one to the French King, Charlemagne. And together the three men joined forces fighting side by side, Britain, France and Scandinavia, battled the invading Saxons. And it was only with the help of these European forces that the famous King Arthur was able to defeat the Saxons.
Had it not been for the aid given by Holger and Charlemagne we may never have heard the heroic tales of King Arthur and Excalibur.
And though I am married to a Dane who was born and raised in Denmark, and have visited the Castle of Kronborg in Helsingor, Denmark and viewed the statue in the casemates, I have also visited both England and France and tried to stay true to the three legends, which are woven together in history, I have taken some artistic license in interweaving the languages and the individual tales, as this is the story from my personal perspective.

EXCERPT OF THE VIKING PRINCESS

He laughed at her, making her senses bristle.
She was not amused. “Am I humorous?”
“I have heard you are many things,” he replied, “but humor has never been cited as one of your virtues.”
“First you laugh at me, and then you belittle me. Is this the way you treat all women?”
He pulled back on the reins. His horse slid to an immediate standstill. Then, burying his face into her hair, he whispered in her ear, “I have shown enormous restraint. Would you like me to show you how I treat all women?”
The burning ember inside her flared to a flame. The muscles low in her belly tightened, as she clenched her legs tighter, wrapping them around his steed. Sucking air into her lungs, she felt the immediate pulse of desire race through the core of her body. She wanted to reach back over her head and wrap her arms around his neck, to pull him even closer.
It was all she could do to hold her tongue and keep from begging him, when all she wanted to say was, “Yes, yes, please show me.”
Her body motionless, she could feel the warmth of him as his hands grew bold, slipping beneath the soft linens covering her, his fingers gently gliding up over her stomach, traveling beneath her breasts and edging up…
A voice whispered inside her head. What are you doing? This man is your enemy. He intends to kill you, your brother, everyone you love…
She grabbed his wrists, holding him still and steady. “You have caught me, kidnapped me, and dragged me here. I may be your prisoner, but do not think that I am interested in your advances.”
His body tensed and he pulled back his hands, gripping her firmly about the waist. “I, Holger, the prince over all the Norse lands, have never had a woman decline the privilege of being my lover.”
“Prince or pauper, it matters not to me what rank you hold, for I, too, am highborn and accustomed to many privileges,” she snapped back, unwilling to let him bask in his own conceit. “And being your lover is not a privilege I would prize.”
“Perhaps,” he said, softening his touch. Slowly he ran his finger down the length of her neck, taunting her. “But are you accustomed to this?” He swung her around to face him; his mouth moved to her neck, gently caressing her throat with his lips and tongue.
The warrior with the devil’s horns was surprisingly gentle and tender with his affections. Morgaine could not contain her pleasure. A small sigh moved up from her throat, over her lips, unexpectedly escaping into the night air. “This is nothing,” he whispered against her flesh, his hand moving down over her navel. Traveling to the valley between her thighs, he pressed his fingers into her apex and she gasped at his touch.
He pulled his hand back. “After your shrill tongue and insults, the next time you will have to beg for my attentions.”
His tone shocked her back into the present. No man had ever spoken to her in this manner. He had no idea of her power. She was not some peasant he could toy with. Morgaine Le Fey was a princess, the sister of King Arthur. It was her turn to laugh…and it came out of her loud and hard. He must not know of her talents. She was the most powerful sorceress in Camelot and perhaps a dozen other kingdoms.
“Me? Beg? To think you will ever witness such an act from me,” she started to say but then shook her head and continued, “You must be more than foolish.”
We will see,” he said, sounding more arrogant and insolent than ever.
“Yes, we shall see,” she replied, as he gave his horse a nudge and they continued riding.

Blurb

Mr. Sandman, send me a dream, ta da da da…..Seventeen year old Chasity Blake knows the Sandman is just a silly children’s story parents tell their children to get them to sleep. At least she thought it was, until the day a mysterious, light golden sand appeared in her hands during a high school prank that went horribly wrong. A sand that has the power to send anyone it touches into a deep, sound sleep.
Fearing she had lost her mind, Chasity soon discovers the shocking truth of her heritage- she is a Dream Caster. Chasity was never supposed to be raised on the Domain, or what humans call Earth and she is forced to return to her true birth place, Revera – the world of Dreams.
However, in Revera there is no balance between good, the Light Casters, and darkness, the Shadow Casters, and Chasity is caught square in the middle. She soon learns that there is no place for anyone containing both the light and the darkness within them, and the shocking truth that if anyone in Revera ever discovered her shadow self, Chasity would be thrown into the Oblivion – the world of Nightmares.
Dreams are always more than they seem, and this time Chasity is going to discover just how different they can be.

Excerpt
Dogs could always see them, where humans couldn’t. He had always assumed the dust worked differently for animals. He used to toy with them, he’d told Zac once it was a good work out, before hitting them with a dose of dust that would kick them out for at least half a day. Against these hounds, however, his golden dust didn’t just put them to sleep, it put them to sleep forever.
“Take my bag,” Graig spoke softly reaching out his had.
“I’m not leaving you, I can fight.”
“These are your family. It’s enough that you have to know that they will die, I’m not going to let you kill them.”
“I don’t give a shit, Graig. You are my family now, you and bean, nobody else.”
Graig smiled. Ever since they’d found out that she was pregnant, she’d called the fetus, bean. Spinning her in his arms, he gave her a hard kiss and handed her a celestian, an oval shaped gel pendant that would take her and the child to their save haven, incase he didn’t make it, and a small green bag filled with his dust. “Just in case,” he spoke, swallowing the lump in his throat.
“There is no incase, you make it, you hear?”
She planted a hard passionate kiss on his lips. The kind that filled him with confidence, he had no doubts not even in that second that would have given away their hiding place.
“Vinicola, are you sure you want to do this?” One of the Shadow Casters mounted on the back of a hound growled. His voice made Graig’s skin crawl. Everything about them screamed the word evil. How that power ran through this beautiful creature standing fiercely next to him, was beyond his knowledge.
Graig surveyed the Caster before him. His hair was wild, hung to his shoulders, and was pure white, just like his love. He must be her family, but how close he didn’t know. Yet, the man didn’t look anything like her. He was big, brought shoulders, and dirty.
Vinicola laughed, the one that Graig hated. It didn’t sound anything like her, but it was the only language she knew to speak, a sound that told them if they killed her, they would feel her father’s wrath. This was purely a retrieval mission for her, but a wipe out for him. “Sibian, you can tell him I’m done with Oblivion, and nothing you do will ever drag me back to that wretched hell hole you love so much.”
“Your mind seems a bit clouded, dear,” the Shadow Caster said. “Let me refresh it.” He lifted up his hands and let his dust flow freely, and four more Shadow Hounds appeared out of his dark sand.
Graig whipped his bow from his shoulder and started to shoot invisible arrows that would take shape through his golden dust.
The hounds that were hit fell into useless heaps of black sand. Vinicola ripped of her whip that had been securely around her waist, and did the same. The other hounds exploded into the sky, but they weren’t destroyed, they would reemerged a couple of minutes later, whole once again.
It was useless for her to fight, she only gave him a couple of minutes as she was still one of them, even though she’d made the choice to leave in her heart.
Graig made sure he used all of the minutes she gave him and when it was time for the full on fight, they both took on two at a time.
He conjured his sword for full on battle and started slashing away.
“Graig!” Vinicola’s voice yelled in panic. When he found her she was captured, with a huge Shadow Caster’s arm around her neck.
In those few seconds he felt defeated, their plan was ruined and he knew he wouldn’t get a second chance with her.
As he stood there, an ax hit him straight in the back, the dark sand ripping his veins inside his body apart. It hurt like hell, and he could feel his golden sand starting to seep out of him. Vinicola’s shrill scream pierced the night air around them.
He wasn’t going to survive this, but he’d made the choice for the love of his life and their unborn child.
He took a celestian out of his pocket, stood up with a mother of an ax inside of him and mustered all the strength he had. He had only moments to act before the others would come, or worse take her away.
He threw the celestian hard on the ground near her feet and yelled the word “San Francisco” as loud as he could. In an instant, a bright light blinded all the Shadow Casters and he watched her close her eyes tightly.
She knew what to do and he watched as she, and the Shadow Caster who had his arm around her neck, disappeared.
The Shadow Caster would die. His DNA wasn’t attached to the celestian, and he wouldn’t make the trip. He had won. Just then another object sliced through his neck and he fell on the floor, the last images he saw was a body without a head before everything went black.

Author Bio
Adrienne Woods was born and raised in South Africa, where she still lives with her husband and two beautiful little girls. She always knew she was going to be a writer, but it only started to really happen about four years ago. In her free time―if she gets any because moms don’t really have free time―she loves to spend it with friends, whether it’s a girls night out, or just watching a movie. She’s a very chilled person. Her writing career started with Firebolt, book one in the Dragonian series. There will be four books in total, including a further two to three books, which will be stories that take place within the Dragonian series. Her other series, Dream Casters, will be released mid 2015. She also writes in different genres, and her woman’s fiction, The Pregnancy Diaries, will be published under a pseudonym. And then, she has a paranormal series by the name of the Aswang series, which will consist of about ten novels. And if that wasn’t enough, there is another series, Guardians of Monsters, which will be released in 2016.
